NightRanger: Power Of The Night

INT.-ELTAR-PALACE-THRONE ROOM-NIGHT
[One thousand years ago, the crown Prince of Eltar celebrates his eighteenth birthday with his parents, the King and Queen of Eltar looking on with pleasure.]

NARRATOR:
A thousand years ago, the evil Battalion Army sweeps through the galaxy, invading planets and assimilating the citizens to add to their army. On the Planet Eltar, a young prince celebrates a milestone.

QUEEN ZORANNA:
Happy Birthday, son!

KING ZORIX:
Zethos...you are eighteen years old...and soon, this kingdom will be yours. With that, you must own a beautiful saber.

[Zorix hands Zethos a silver and black sword as a present.]

I only wish my brother...your Uncle, Zordon was here to see how much you have grown.

PRINCE ZETHOS:
The sword...it's remarkable.

KING ZORIX:
I am told that it will protect the universe.

[Zethos does not comprehend his father's previous words, but looks at the sword in awe as a crowd of thousands look on.]

EXT.-OUTER SPACE
[A fleet of ships prepare to enter the galaxy...and are enroute to Eltar.]

INT.-OUTER SPACE-LEAD BATTALION SHIP-FLIGHT DECK
[A bat-like creature, Lord Battarex is flanked by two female bat-like aliens.]

LORD BATTAREX:
(as an army of Tri-Bat minions look on)
Soon! We will assimilate and annihilate new planets! Make the inhabitants submit to the will of the Battalion. If they refuse...kill them! It is the way of the Battalion!

[The thousands of Tri-Bats, who stand behind two generals, LEECHOR and BATAL all cheer.]

EXT.-OUTER SPACE
[Thousands of small jet-like craft depart the larger ships, and set course for Eltar.]

EXT.-ELTAR-NIGHT
[The Tri-Bat flyers buzz overhead, and the minions jump off of them to begin the invasion. Destruction erupts all over, and millions of Eltarians are assimilated or killed and the Battalion force heads toward the palace.]

EXT.-ELTAR-PALACE-NIGHT
[Hordes of Tri-Bats arrive, and gain entry into the palace grounds. The guards try their hardest to protect the building and the royal family...but are no match.]

GUARD #1:
(to another guard)
Protect the King!

[The second guard runs to the throne room to warn the royal family.]

INT.-ELTAR-PALACE-THRONE ROOM-NIGHT
[The guard runs in, yelling]

GUARD #2:
We're being invaded!

[The King and Queen put up a valiant fight to avoid assimilation, but Leechor, the Battalion Head of Defense slaughters them.

PRINCE ZETHOS:
Mom! Dad!

[The Prince tries to run away, but literally runs into Lord Battarex, who is entering. Zethos tries to attack with his new sword...but, Battarex flings it away.]

LORD BATTAREX:
I don't think so, squirt! I will assimilate you myself!

[Battarex shows his mighty vampire-like teeth, and sinks them into the flesh of Zethos' neck. The Prince screams in agony as his physiology instantly changes.]

Ah, the taste of royal blood surges through my veins!

[The entire planet of Eltar lays in ruins as buildings crumble down, and fires rage.]

INT.-BATAVIA-PALACE-NIGHT (999.5 YEARS LATER...)
[Zethos, now a Battalion general called Batohs, is now in command of the Tri-Bat Army. He waits outside a ornate set of doors to talk to Battarex' daughter, Princess Batia, who he has been secretly dating for the past couple months. After a couple minutes, the Princess arrives. The two decide to meet in Batohs' quarters.]

INT.-BATAVIA-PALACE-BATOHS' QUARTERS-NIGHT
[Batohs and Batia meet to talk about strategy...and the next planet to invade.]

BATOHS:
Edenoi or Aquitar?

BATIA:
Edenoi has a rich supply of Edentanium that can be used to fuel our ships. But, Aquitar is rich with water. The Edenites will be added to our army, but the Aquitians cannot be out of water for long. The best bet would be Edenoi.

BATOHS:
So it is agreed upon. We will attack Edenoi!

[After their work is done, the two engage in passionate love-making, and so progress to mating. The song "I Just Don't Care (I Love You)" by The Moody Blues plays in the background.]

INT.-BATAVIA-PALACE-NIGHT (FOUR MONTHS LATER...)
[The Edenite invasion occurred three months ago, and was a success. During a meeting, Batohs and Batia are noticing that their assimilation is slowly wearing off due to their mating habits, and realize that they must flee Batavia to protect themselves...but Batia may be hiding something else.]

BATIA:
We must flee Batavia, Batohs. For our own protection.

BATOHS:
I agree. But how do we get out of here?

BATIA:
Leave that to me. Meet me at Shuttleport Eight at nineteen hundred hours.

BATOHS:
Got it. See you then!

[The two passionately embrace and kiss, then go to their stations.]

INT.-BATAVIA-SHUTTLEPORT EIGHT-NIGHT
[Batohs and Batia meet, and enter. They approach a shuttle, and enter as Leechor spies on them. Once in the shuttle, Batohs remembers his birthday gift from long ago.]

BATIA:
What is it, my love?

BATOHS:
The night I was turned. It was my my eighteenth birthday. My father gave me a sword, and told me about a prophecy. I wonder if the sword is still there.

BATIA:
It's worth a shot. Let's go!

[Batohs\Zethos sets a course for Eltar, and the shuttle leaves the hangar. Leechor, who had summoned Battarex enter the hangar.]

LORD BATTAREX:
After them!

LEECHOR:
Squadrons one through twenty-five...deploy!

EXT.-OUTER SPACE
[The shuttle hurries to Eltar as it is being chased by the Tri-Bat Flyers. Batohs\Zethos brings the shuttle's weapons systems online.]

BATOHS\ZETHOS:
Computer! Bring the shuttle around, and energize the weapons!

COMPUTER:
Weapons are online...target scanners locked!

BATOHS\ZETHOS:
Fire!

[The shuttle fires on the fighters.]

Resume course. Increase velocity by fifty percent.

SHIP COMPUTER:
Engage!

[The shuttle flies through a field of junked Tri-Bat Flyers.]

INT.-BATAVIA-SHUTTLEPORT EIGHT-NIGHT
[Battarex and Leechor receive the report.]

LEECHOR:
All those fighters have been destroyed.

[Battarex slams his fist down on a railing.]

Do not fret, sire...I know where they are heading. Batohs is going home.

LORD BATTAREX:
Make the necessary arrangements, Leechor.

LEECHOR:
Yes, sire!

[Leechor exits the hangar as Battarex looks out into space in anger.]

EXT.-ELTAR-PALACE-DAWN
[The shuttle arrives, and lands near the entrance to the palace's throne room. The two exit the shuttle, and enter the remains of the destroyed throne room.]

INT.-ELTAR-PALACE-THRONE ROOM-DAY
[The two bare witness to the ruins of the palace and the nearby city. Batohs\Zethos looks through the rubble for the sword, hoping that it is still there.]

BATOHS\ZETHOS:
Oh, where is it!?

[He tries to remember that fateful night to jog his memory. He soon finds the sword, and touches the black jewel on the hilt of the sword. A holographic message plays.]

KING ZORIX:
Hello, my son. This sword is the Night Saber. It has the power to protect the universe from all evil, and the owner...you...are now a sentinel...the protector of the universe. Your mother and I will always be proud of you.

[The hologram image vanishes. Soon, the sound of a Tri-Bat Flyer squadron fills the sky.]

BATIA\TIA JERICHO:
Zethos!

BATOHS\ZETHOS:
Find a weapon to protect yourself.

[Batia\Tia finds a decorative dagger, and readies herself for battle. Suddenly, a platoon of Tri-Bats enter the room. Batohs\Zethos readies his sword, which bathes the room in a golden light. The Tri-Bat Army in the room is suddenly obliterated into piles of dust.]

Wow!

[Batohs and Batia's final Battalion "parts" have vanished, leaving the two fully humanoid...Zethos and Tia.

TIA JERICHO:
We're fully human!

[One hundred more Tri-Bats then enter.]

PRINCE ZETHOS:
We'll celebrate later. We got work to do!

[The two humans charge into battle against the Tri-Bats, and start destroying them. The jewel on the hilt of Zethos' sword glows an emerald green color, and transforms Zethos into a Power Ranger-like warrior.]

voice of ZORDON:
Zethos...you are the Night Ranger. A Sentinel-type Ranger, more powerful than an ordinary Power Ranger.

[Tia, noticing that her dagger looks similar to her boyfriend's sword tries to morph...but cannot.]

TIA JERICHO:
Zethos! I can't morph with this thing...

[Tia is face to face with a few Tri-Bats.]

But that won't stop me right now!

[The two fight valiantly for several minutes.]

NIGHT RANGER:
Night Slash!

[A powerful slash from the Night Saber takes out most of the minions.]

X-Force!

[A more powerful slash from the Night Saber destroys most of the remaining Tri-Bats. Tia then presses a button on her dagger. to finish up the Tri-Bats. The two are left alone in the ruins of the Eltarian royal palace.]

Power Down!

[The Night Ranger suit vanishes from Zethos' body.]

TIA JERICHO:
(picking up a device from the ground)
Zethos...look! A tablet.

[Tia presses a couple buttons on the device.]

It's the next target of the Battalion!

ZETHOS:
Where?

TIA JERICHO:
Earth!

ZETHOS:
I will protect the Earth...but first, we must warn Space Command!

INT.-OUTER SPACE-SPACE COMMAND SPACE STATION-BRIEFING ROOM
[A couple weeks later, Zethos and Tia meet with the station's commander.]

TIA JERICHO:
Commander, the Battalion are coming for Earth, and they will assimilate the entire population, and those that avoid the turning, will be killed on site.

COMMANDER:
(as the three look out a window onto the Earth)
I understand. What can we do?

TIA JERICHO:
Contact the Earth's Power Rangers.

ZETHOS:
(looking with conviction)
No. I will handle the situation. The planetary rangers will not be strong enough. They will be annihilated.

TIA JERICHO:
Zethos...

ZETHOS:
I am ready to take on the Battalion again.

COMMANDER:
Your shuttle has been re-supplied, and it is ready for battle.

TECH OFFICER:
(handing Zethos a wrist device)
Zethos, this device will appear once you touch the hilt jewel of your sword to your left wrist. It will enhance your powers, and aid you in battle.

ZETHOS:
Thank you. Tia...stay here.

[Alarm klaxons sound.]

voice of OFFICER:
Commander, the Battalion Fleet has been detected on long-range sensors. They're coming, sir.

COMMANDER:
All hands...battle stations!

INT.-OUTER SPACE-SPACE COMMAND SPACE STATION-CORRIDOR
[Zethos enters a hatch, leading to a personal ship hanger as Tia watched with concern. She still has not told Zethos her secret...waiting for the right time to tell her mate.]

EXT.-EARTH-ATLANTIS-NIGHT
[The invasion fleet enters Earth's atmosphere, with Zethos' shuttle, now named the "NightFlyer" in hot pursuit. Zethos puts the ship's cloaking device on as he teleports down. Zethos, dressed in his rebel outfit appears. Several Tri-Bats, wearing special scuba gear, dive into the water. Zethos quietly draws his sword, and holds the jewel to his wrist. The morpher-like device appears on the left wrist. The Night Saber is holstered, and Zethos opens the device to reveal a keypad, and presses "9-1-1->.")

MORPHER VOICE:
Nine...One...One!

ZETHOS:
Power Of The Night!

[Zethos morphs into the Night Ranger's default suit mode. He then presses "MODE-1->" to activate an armor mode.]

MORPHER VOICE:
Mode One!

NIGHT RANGER-HYDRO MODE:
Hydro Armor, Power On!

[The Hydro Armor forms onto the Night Ranger suit, essentially giving the Night Ranger the ability to fight underwater. The Night Ranger chases the Tri-Bats while in the water, and overtakes the minions, who engage in a submarine battle.]

Hydro Lasers!

[Laser beams fire from the palms of Night Ranger's gloves.]

Hydro Pump!

[Night Ranger moves each of his hands one after the other firing laser beams from each palm to destroy the swimming minions. After the underwater minions are destroyed, the Night Ranger resurfaces, and the Night Ranger teleports up to his ship and powers down to his default mode.]

MORPHER VOICE:
Mode Zero!

SHIP COMPUTER:
Tri-Bats have been detected in Siberia.

NIGHT RANGER:
Set a course.

SHIP COMPUTER:
Course set. Engines have engaged.

NIGHT RANGER:
Computer. Analysis...how many armor modes does this device have?

SHIP COMPUTER:
Analyzing.

EXT.-EARTH-EURASIA-SIBERIA-DAY
[Thousands of Tri-Bats descend on a group of villages during white-out blizzard conditions.]

VILLAGER:
(fleeing in fear)
Monsters!

[The NightFlyer arrives, and Zethos descends from the craft, while pressing "MODE-2->."]

MORPHER VOICE:
Mode Two!

NIGHT RANGER-ARTIC MODE:
Artic Armor, Power On!

[The Artic Armor is designed to keep the Night Ranger warm in cold environments. The shades of white, light gray, and dark gray are also designed to camouflage him in the snow.]

Ice Daggers!

[Two icy daggers appear, and the Night Ranger uses them to slice and dice the parka-wearing Tri-Bats one-by-one in a predator style as it snows. The Tri-Bats try to hide, but the Night Ranger uses a snow drift to lay in wait for a few minutes to take the minions down. He then uses his icy-motif Night Saber to execute his finisher.]

Ice Force!

[The remaining Tri-Bats are then destroyed. The villagers all surround the Night Ranger, and cheer him on a bit before the hero teleports up to the NightFlyer. Inside the ship, the Night Ranger powers down to his default form, and removes his helmet to rest.]

ZETHOS:
Any more readings, computer?

SHIP COMPUTER:
Affirmative. Getting some readings in Hawaii and in Angel Grove.

ZETHOS:
Let's get to it!

[Zethos puts his helmet back on. The ship departs Siberia.]

EXT.-EARTH-PACIFIC OCEAN-DAY
[Over open water, Zethos wonders about Tia, and the fact that she has not told him about something...he can sense it.]

SHIP COMPUTER:
Are you okay, Zethos?

NIGHT RANGER:
Yeah. I think that Tia is not telling me something. But...she can handle herself. She is strong.

SHIP COMPUTER:
Arriving over Hawaii. Reported Honolulu temperature is eighty degrees. Volcanic temperature from inside is well over two thousand degrees.

NIGHT RANGER:
I will have to use the Fire Armor down there.

EXT.-EARTH-HAWAII-DUSK
[The Night Ranger witnesses the Tri-Bats, and immediately goes to work. After defeating some minions on the ground near a volcano, the Night Ranger activates a grappling hook from a launcher mount on the back of his left hand, firing a line to the top of the volcano. On top, the hook stows, and the Night Ranger activates one of his armors.]

NIGHT RANGER:
Okay...time for the Fire Armor.

[The Night Ranger presses "Mode-3->."]

MORPHER VOICE:
Mode Three!

NIGHT RANGER-FIRE MODE:
Fire Armor, Power On!

[A reddish-orange suit forms of the Night Ranger suit to protect the user from extremely hot temperatures up to 4000 degrees. The Night Ranger battles the Tri-Bats at the volcano's summit. He then uses his sword, in which the jewel on the hilt is now orange, and swipes at the Tri-Bat minions.]

Flashover!

[The Night Ranger executes the finisher to knock the Tri-Bats into the volcano to burn...but one lone minion is able to drag him in.]

Oh, man!

[The Night Ranger shakes off the Tri-Bat, and activates his rocket boots to get out of the volcano's caldera and escapes the erupting volcano. The NightFlyer then departs.]

INT.-EARTH-HAWAII-NIGHT FLYER-NIGHT
[On a monitor, the Night Ranger sees a massive invasion force...led by Battarex and Leechor.]

NIGHT RANGER:
(back in default form)
Those two just do not know when to quit! Set a course for Angel Grove.

EXT.-EARTH-ANGEL GROVE-DOWNTOWN-NIGHT
[The Night Ranger stands on a tall skyscraper, ala Batman. He then presses "MODE-4->" on his morpher.]

MORPHER VOICE:
Mode Four!

[The Night Ranger activates his armor...similar to the default form, but with wings. He leaps off the ledge to swoop down over the city to see the massive "post-apocalyptic" damage. Leechor sees his enemy, and shoots him out of the sky.]

LEECHOR:
Time for a little target practice. Down goes the Prince!

[The Night Ranger crashes down onto the roof of a parked car in a dark back alley, and rolls down onto the ground, and is forced out of morph. He is in obvious pain. The Tri-Bats cheer, as they think that they destroyed the Night Ranger.]

INT.-OUTER SPACE-SPACE COMMAND SPACE STATION-COMMANDER'S OFFICE
[Seeing her mate get shot down, Tia collapses to her knees in tears...then to the ground, unconscious.]

COMMANDER:
I need the medical team!

INT.-EARTH-ANGEL GROVE-ABANDONED WAREHOUSE-NIGHT
[A group of young Earthling rebels watch over Zethos' unconscious body. A young pre-teen named Jimmy is the more active kid of the group.]

ZETHOS:
(weakened, moving his closed eyes, and slowly moving his hands)
Uhhhh Ohhh.

[Jimmy sees the movements, and the morpher on Zethos' wrist and presses a button to make him and Zethos teleport to the NightFlyer.]

LEAD KID:
Jimmy!

INT.-EARTH-ANGEL GROVE-NIGHT FLYER-DAY
[In the adjoining room on the ship, Jimmy is able to summon a doctor from the space station to help Zethos...who is soon miraculously healed, and awake.]

DOCTOR:
Jimmy. Thank you for your help. This man is the only one who can stop the Battalion from invading this planet.

ZETHOS:
Yes...thank you, young man. Now...

[Zethos puts his full Eltarian clothing (by just putting on a cape over his rebel outfit) on. He then grabs his sword, and holsters it.]

...Time to return to work.

DOCTOR:
Your highness...

ZETHOS:
I heal quickly. I will be fine.

DOCTOR:
...Tia is in the Medical Bay on the station. She...collapsed when she saw you get shot down.

ZETHOS:
Please take care of her. I will return once the Battalion scum are taken care of! Jimmy...please stay here.

[Zethos teleports down to the streets below, and calmly walks amidst smoky, flaming debris. Flanked by dozens of Super Tri-Bats, Leechor faces Zethos as Battarex watches from a nearby throne.]

So, fang-face...finally come to see your general and minions go down?

LORD BATTAREX:
No...i have come to finish off this miserable planet.

LEECHOR:
I am the one who killed your parents long ago, young Prince!

ZETHOS:
I know. That's why you will be the first to go.

[Zethos draws his sword, and holds it to his chest, with the sword diagonally across, and the tip pointing toward the sky.]

Power From Within!

[The Night Ranger suit forms over Zethos' body.]

NIGHT RANGER:
Power...Of...The...Night!

[The Night Ranger poses heroically as the song "Power Of The Night" by Savatage plays in the background. The Night Ranger is met by charging Super Tri-Bats, and uses his sword to counter them.]

Night Saber...power up! X-Force!

[Leechor then leaps in, and uses his webbed fingers to drain the Night Ranger's powers. Our hero collapses tho his knees, and out of morph...feeling drained of power. Jimmy suddenly rushes in, and presses two buttons on the morpher at the same time.]

MORPHER VOICE:
Mode "X!"

ZETHOS:
What?

[The Night Ranger presses the "enter" button on the morpher to complete the transformation.]

Run!

[Zethos screams as the Beast Armor is activated. Zethos instantly morphes back into his default form, and "over-morphs" to make the Night Ranger gain an all-gray suit with bat wings.]

NIGHT RANGER-BEAST MODE:
Beast Armor, Power On!

LEECHOR:
(in shock)
What!!!???

[The Night Ranger delivers multiple blows to Leechor, then uses his sword to cut off the five suction parts on his hands, feet, and mouth, which destroys him.]

NIGHT RANGER-BEAST MODE:
One down! That leaves you, Battarex!

[The Night Ranger's sonic hearing picks up the sound of a baby crying.]

voice of FEMALE:
Congratulations, Tia...it's a girl!

[In his helmet, Zethos smiles.]

NIGHT RANGER-BEAST MODE:
(whispering)
I knew it!

[The Night Ranger feels immense power, and vengeance. He then presses "MODE-X-X-X->" to mutate into a monstrous form.]

You are going down, clown! The reign of Lord Battarex is over!

[The Night Ranger's Beast Armor Mode mutates into a more animal-like form...the Mega Beast Armor-X Mode. He then maliciouslyy stalks Battarex, who now fears for his life. The Night Ranger then draws his sword, and opens a vortex by powering up the Night Saber, and drawing a circle in front of him.]

NIGHT RANGER-MEGA BEAST ARMOR X MODE:
Gate...Of...Destiny!

[The vortex open up, and sucks in everything in a small radius.]

Once you are gone...Batara will lead the Battalion into a new era!

[The vortex finally sucks Battarex in, and rips him to shreads with purple and black energy bolts before closing, and vanishing. The Night Ranger powers down to his default form, and teleports up to the NightFlyer.]

INT.-NIGHT FLYER-NIGHT
[The Night Ranger plops down into his pilot's seat, and totally powers down.]

ZETHOS:
Computer...set a course for Space Command.

INT.-OUTER SPACE-SPACE COMMAND SPACE STATION-MEDICAL BAY
[Zethos, dressed in his royal outfit walks into a private room, carrying a bouquet of flowers.]

TIA JERICHO:
Zethos!

ZETHOS:
Hello beautiful.

[Tia accepts the flowers and some kisses.]

TIA JERICHO:
I'm sorry that I didn't tell you.

[Beside Tia's bed is a humanoid baby girl.]

ZETHOS:
It's okay. She's beautiful.

TIA JERICHO:
She needs a name...how about a joining of our names?

ZETHOS:
Zia? Sounds good.

TIA JERICHO:
And one request...

INT.-BATAVIA-PALACE-ROYAL CHAMBERS-NIGHT
[The King's page...and adopted son, Batal knocks on the chamber doors. Batara takes her hands away from her face. Batal notices that Batara is a bit worse-for-wear now that Battarex is gone, and those personally assimilated by him are regaining their humanity...including her.]

BATAL:
Your majesty...your loyal subjects await.

[Batal is secretly plotting to overthrow Batara as Batavia's rightful heir. Batal departs the room, soon followed by Batara.]

INT.-BATAVIA-PALACE-ROYAL OFFICE-NIGHT
[Batara arrives in her office, and prepares to address all of Batavia. She has a plan for the future of Batavia, but faces stiff opposition...from Batal.]

INT.-BATAVIA-NIGHT
[The Batavians mill about, then pay attention to loudspeakers.]

VOICE:
Prepare for a message from Queen Batara!

QUEEN BATARA:
Attention, people of Batavia! This is the Queen! I have a future of Batavia in mind. We will no longer invade and assimilate...we will become a more civilized populous...

BATAL:
(gathering his followers)
It is time...we must overthrow the Queen for the sake of Batavia!

EXT.-OUTER SPACE-NIGHT FLYER
[Zethos, inside the NightFlyer is enroute to Batavia. In the ship's cargo bay is a substance that will eradicate those that are still Battalion.]

INT.-BATAVIA-NIGHT
[Zethos arrives, and surveys the situation. He pilots his cloaked ship to the planet's Blood Lake...the source of the planet's blood supply. Zethos teleports the barrels into the lake of blood, and detonates the barrels so that the Battalion blood supply is contaminated. With his sword drawn, Zethos teleports to the palace.]

INT.-BATAVIA-PALACE-NIGHT
[Zethos searches for, and finds Tara. The two quickly teleport back to the ship.]

INT.-BATAVIA-NIGHT FLYER-DAY
[The ship departs the planet.]

EXT.-OUTER SPACE-NIGHT FLYER
[Once out of danger, the two talk.]

TARA JERICHO:
Thanks for the rescue...but, why? What will happen to Batavia?

ZETHOS:
I contaminated Blood Lake, turning the red blood into blue water. The Batavians will live their lives without Battalion influence. Also...you are the grandmother of a baby girl. I am taking you to Space Command to meet her.

TARA JERICHO:
What is her name?

ZETHOS:
Zia...Zia Jericho.

TARA JERICHO:
(overcome with emotion)
Congratulations.

INT.-OUTER SPACE-SPACE COMMAND SPACE STATION-MEDICAL BAY
[Zethos, and a now fully restored Tara enter the room. Tia is now up and walking around, rushes to her mother, and the two Jerichos hug.]

TIA JERICHO:
Mom...this...is Zia.

TARA JERICHO:
This little one will have an interesting future!

INT.-OUTER SPACE-SPACE COMMAND SPACE STATION-BRIEFING ROOM (A FEW WEEKS LATER...)
[The base commander presents awards to Zethos, Tia, and Tara, and are also given official titles of Admiral and Ambassadors to Space Command for Eltar and Earth.]

INT.-BATAVIA-NIGHT
